Lelita’s Kitchen, The YouTube Channel that shows you how to make delicious Cuban food

Lelita Diaz is a proud Cuban-American who has quickly become an influencer in Cuban cuisine.

Thanks to her YouTube Channel Lelita’s Kitchen, thousands of people are learning how to prepare and cook traditional Cuban meals.

On her YouTube Channel you can learn to make entrees such as Ropa Vieja, Vaca Frita, Camarones Enchilados (Cuban Creole Shrimps), Cuban Sandwich, and Croquetas.

However, you can also learn how to make classic Cuban desserts like Guava Flan, Cream Cheese Flan, Buñuelos, Guava and cheese pastries, and other desserts.

And of course, she shows you how to make a delicious cafecito – Cuban coffee.

I wanted to know more about this rising star in Cuban cuisine so I interviewed her.

Lelita, tell us a little about yourself.

I am an American of Cuban and Jamaican descent who was born in New York. I’m married and I have two sons.

Why did you decide to start your YouTube channel about Cuban food?

I started my channel to initially leave recipes behind for my children. But I realized that so many people wanted to learn traditional Cuban recipes that were lost when their parents or abuelos died.

Are you trained as a chef and if not how did you learn to cook traditional Cuban food?

No. I am not a trained chef. I am a retired Registered Nurse. I learned my recipes from my father and from family and friends.

What is your favorite Cuban food to eat and which one do you like preparing for others?

My favorite Cuban dish is Ropa Vieja. But I prepare Picadillo the most as my oldest son loves it.

What else do you want to share with us?

I do small catering and am trying to revamp it as soon as we get back to normal. I am in the process of writing a cookbook. Thank you for the interview. It’s been fun! Muchas bendiciones!

Thank you Lelita for allowing us to get to know you a little better.
