The Cuban sandwich has become popular all over the United States thanks to it being featured in the movie Chef and through YouTube food influencers who have visited Miami and Tampa.
The history of this sandwich dates back to when many Cuban tobacco industry workers migrated to Tampa for work and this sandwich was created there. It was a fast and affordable way to prepare a lunch meal. The ingredients for the Miami version are ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard.

The Tampa version adds a salami which has caused a friendly rivalry between the two cities. I have not had the Tampa version but I hope to one day soon.

Both versions use Cuban bread, which is different than Italian or French bread. My favorite is when the bread is smothered with butter and then pressed on a plancha giving it that unique, crispy taste when you take a bite of it.
